I long to inspire a unique vision in those who view my art. Showing that there is but one vision leading to an eternal focus.
Making art brings me joy in my use of design, colors, and connection to God. To share those concepts is key to my creative process. The goal that I have is to spread unity among people who lack the perspective of unity. This unique perspective comes from my approach, subject matter, and the choice of what to represent in a work of art.
As a child I was drawn to art after seeing cousins draw cartoons. From that time, I knew that I wanted to imitate art. In high school and as an art major in college in fine art and graphic design I was focused on being an artist. It was at this time, a love for watercolor painting developed. inspired to use the medium by watercolorist Winslow Homer. I remember studying his technique in and being awestruck by the simplicity of the images that he chose to paint. Then I saw the work of Henry O. Tanner, whose work further motivated me to creativity. This was one of the first black artists whose work really spoke to me. In 1981, I received a B.A. in art on an art talent scholarship. I further sought art training taking courses at the American Academy of Art in 1985. In seeking employment, I turned to freelance design and illustration.
In my profession as a librarian, I continued to create, make art, and seek prospects to show my work. My preferred medium consists of watercolor, pastels, pen & ink, and pencil drawings. My primary focus is to depict scenarios in life that are endearing to me. A certain look, a laugh, or a mood created by an emotion. Most subject matter consists of portraits, animals, landscapes, and still life. As an artist and creative being my goal is to recapture the energy that I witnessed from day to day
Most recently, I have been working to improve and develop work consisting of painting Plein Air landscapes, figure and portraits from life, and animals and wildlife.
